A 22-year-old Irish dual citizen has been reported missing in southern Israel after she attended a rave close to Gaza. Kim Damti, and her mother Jennifer (60) who is from Portlaoise, last spoke when the first rockets were launched by Hamas into Israel at around 7am on Saturday.
Some young people had been dancing in the desert at the rave all night, when they were attacked, with some being killed and others kidnapped into Gaza, according to reports.
Ms Damti’s mother Jennifer told the Irish Times: “She’s just a brilliant kid, a happy kid, trying to have fun. They shot them (the young people) down like ducks. So many kids were slaughtered there.
“Kim’s name was originally on a list of those who had reached a safe kibbutz but she was not on the buses that evacuated those at the rave.The young woman is one of five siblings, all born in Israel. The family lived in Gadera in Israel but according to the Irish Times, they spent their summer holidays in Ireland.
Thousands of young people had attended the Nova Festival, where gunfire broke out. Many had been dancing to Trance music right through the night into the morning. When rockets were heard continuously, the music stopped and young people dropped to the floor. This was reported to be a practiced reaction to security alerts in Israel over the years.
